News & Announcements

Friends Of Historic Fire Station 62 (FOHFS62) is dedicated to the transformation of Historic Fire Station 62 into a multipurpose community center for all of Mar Vista and the surrounding community; a place where the young, the old, and those in between can come for enrichment, assistance, interaction, education, and recreation.

We are excited to announce that our Fund-raising Campaign is underway, and we need your help to make our vision a reality.

FOHFS62 has signed a special agreement with the City of Los Angeles. Phase One tasks us with raising at least $1.6 million to turn Historic Fire Station 62 into the Mar Vista Community Center. Once that amount is collected, the City will then agree to a lease that permits us to proceed to Phase Two—the actual renovation of the building. Should we not achieve our fund raising goal in Phase One, all monies collected will, in accordance with the standard practices of nonprofit organizations, be donated to one or more non-profit organizations that are Mar Vista community oriented.

Please visit our website at Historic62.org for up-to-date information on the project, online donation options, and pledge opportunities.

If you’d rather send a check by mail, please make the check out to FOHFS62, and mail to:

Of course donations are fully tax deductible, and we encourage all levels of participation.  Please visit the FOHFS62 website at Historic62.org for suggested donation levels, information about Naming Opportunities, and disclosures and fund-raising information.

Financial support will come from a variety of sources, including individuals, corporations, non-profit funding agencies and foundations, and insightful gifts such as bequests.
As a community center,  Historic Fire Station 62’s use would be limited
only by the imaginations of the citizens of Mar Vista . . .
We need your help to make this vision a reality.

CAPITAL CAMPAIGN:  $1,600,000
These funds will be used to renovate the building along with the outdoor parking, activity, and landscaped areas so that they meet the community’s needs and comply with all City regulations and mandates.

QUASI-ENDOWMENT:  $1,000,000
The interest earned on these funds, along with use fees and future contributions, will provide for the administration, staffing, and maintenance of the Center for the 30 years of our current lease, and will help maintain a funding source for the life of the building.

Financial support will come from a variety of sources, including individuals, corporations, non-profit funding agencies and foundations, and insightful gifts such as bequests.

Most importantly, we need the support of the community.

Local businesses are invited to become contributors and community leaders.  There will be a multitude of opportunities for acknowledgement of their generosity, and for donor recognition.

Lead gifts and capital campaign contributions are the lifeblood of a community building project, and annual contributions help run programs.  We will also offer the opportunity to establish a Named Fund, that can honor or memorialize a loved one or family by carrying its name.  Such a fund will carry the designated name for the life of the fund, which can be extended through additional contributions.

Endowed gifts are held in perpetuity, and only the interest on the invested principal is used.  A Quasi-Endowment allows the Center to use a small percentage of the principal in an emergency.
